Fortinet Debuts Two New Consolidated Security Appliances

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Fortinet (News - Alert), a network security provider, announced that its newly released consolidate security appliances for the mid-range enterprise market extend its price/performance leadership in the strategic mid-range market segment that consists of medium size businesses, enterprise customers, application service providers (ASPs) and software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) providers.

The new FortiGate-600C and FortiGate-1000C appliances are supposed to offer more UTM deployment options for mid-sized organizations and branch offices of large enterprises that are looking for safeguarding their critical assets with highly resilient security.

According to the company, the FortiGate-600C appliance delivers performance and flexibility with hardware-accelerated essential security technologies, including firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, application control, and web content filtering, all managed from a ‘single pane of glass’ console. The solution is capable of ensuring that the security is never at a bottleneck and up to 20 Gbps firewall performance and sub-10 microsecond latency ensures optimal performance.

With the FortiGate-1000C, one can acquire the ability to identify and stop numerous kinds of threats from a single device. The high port density and types of ports of the FortiGate-1000C gives the freedom to create multiple security zones for various departments, users, access methods, and even devices. The eight shared RJ45/SFP Gigabit Ethernet ports are integrated for deployment flexibility and two bypass-protected ports preserve network availability. There is 120 GB of onboard Flash memory which enables users to install WAN optimization for bringing down bandwidth consumption and other purposes.

By blending the FortiGate-600C and FortiGate-1000C appliances with Fortinet's FortiClient, one can extend high-performance virtual private networks (VPNs) to make sure security communications multiple networks and hosts are uninterrupted. The FortiClient is a client-based software solution designed to be used in connection with FortiGate appliances to provide security features like Endpoint Control and WAN Optimization for enterprise computers.

Officials with the company ascertained that they continue to hear from midrange customers and prospects about pushing the price/performance envelope for consolidated security solutions that are broad in scope, easy to deploy and can be centrally managed. The introduction of the FortiGate-600C and FortiGate-1000C appliances addresses each of these needs head on. No other products in this class can match the combined performance and consolidated security services of these new appliances.
